Portfolio
Exhibition: 3 images and Bio
In order to choose 3 piece of work for my exhibition I looked trough all my work that I did in my modules. I have not done anything outside the university on my free time or for friends so I did not have great variety of options. Works were picked using two criteria. First was the overall appeal of work to me, was a project successful, am I proud of it. Second, how work present me and my skills.
I was looking at few projects. These are works that I feel comfortable showing to others. I will consider them for my portfolio later on.
Projects and thoughts:
1st year Introduction to Animation module where I had to create a 2D animated DIY photography tutorial.
This was my first encounter with Adobe Flash program. Even thought that it is first year project I feel very comfortable about it.
2nd year Digital imaging software module where I had to create a portfolio of 12images by myself and poster with a group.
The module that I enjoyed most. Learned a lot concerning photography working in studio and outside. Produced images are within 6 different categories: environmental portraiture, still life, studio portraiture, night, movement, landscape. I think I will put it in my portfolio were I will have more space for showing more than 1 image.
2nd year Principles of Video Production module where I with two others students had to create a music video.
The overall video in my opinion has some strong and some weak parts. However, tutor found more weak spots in it and overall mark suggest that I should not show it to others. I might put some of it to the portfolio.
2nd year 2D Animation module where I had to create 2D animation to reflect the event that happened to Czechoslovakia
I found the main theme of the project to be frustrating. However, in this 2D animation I managed to create and animate characters and have some level storyline. Some parts worked out well, and I tried some new animation techniques.
2nd year 3D Animation and Modelling module where I had to create a 3D trailer for a chosen James Bond movie.
Modules consist of modelling 3 objects, gun, palace and car, and then animated them. This module consumed most of my time and was followed by good mark. There are flaws in it, models and animation could be better. I have done loads of work on it and it was my first encounter with 3D studio MAX.
Models should work quite well on boards and should be able to translate my interest in 3D modelling.
3rd year Advanced Sound Techniques module where I had to create a soundscape.
Found out a lot of new stuff about creating sound. the final soundscape worked out well. I would like to work with sound in the future. Sound is a big part of the video which interest me aswell. However, it would not work for exhibition as there is issue with playing back sound and there is not much to show on boards.
3rd year Virtual Environments module where I had to create 3D replica of my face and 3D visualization of Finchingfield Guild Hall.
I got my highest mark in this module. This fact itself forces me to show it. I am not fully pleased with second part of module where I had to make Guild Hall visualization with my group. The first part of module where I had to make my 3D face worked out very well. It shows my ability to model real life objects.
The final decision is to show my animation skills. I see this as my strongest part I would like to do something with it in the future. 3 Pieces of work:
James Bond Trailer, image showing ice place and car model.
Model of my face, Image showing face from different angles
Czechoslovakia animation, 4 screenshots of animation.
For 3D projects I decided to include images with mesh on top of models. To do this I had to go back to the projects and render new images that would show mesh and than overlay it in photoshop over original images.
Below you can find 3 final images and their descriptions
A 2D animated interpretation of “Czechoslovakia, 1968” originally by
Denis Sanders and Nobert Fresea. Animation reference events from Czech
history such as their independence in 1918 to the Soviet invasion in
1968. The aim was to tell a story trough the perspective of old
Czechoslovakian conveying his mood and feelings of those events by
symbolic visualisations. Animation and characters were created using
Adobe Flash CS4.
The project I did in last year's Virtual environments module. The task
was to create a 3D model of our own head. The model was created from
reference images using spline modelling technique. Programs used were
Autodesk 3d Max 2011 for head model and Adobe Photoshop CS4 for UVW
maps.
My first encounter with 3d modelling and animation during my second year
at university. Task was to create a 3D animated 30 second trailer with 3
models for James Bond movie of our choice. Movie I picked was "Die
Another Day" starring Pierce Brosnan. Animation evolves around walther
P99 pistol, Aston Martin Vanquish and ice palace. The module introduced
me to various modelling and animation techniques in Autodesk 3D Max.
For the biography I decided to do something creative and not too serious. I can write about work I have done, but it was too hard for me to actually write biography about myself and the short time I have spent here. If it is going to be need in the future I will leave it to be written by somebody else. Maybe I could have just included a description of myself with my skills and interests. But I will let my work talk about me instead of doing it personally.
Bio:
Born at first attempt in Klaipeda, Lithuania, Europe, Planet Earth, on March 16, 1990, under the lucky star of epic proportions.
Justinas Jonuska is only twin and offspring of single-idea and carnivorous plant, since the day he was born was more interested in the world and idea than a person and things.
His childhood was spent playing with wooden toys attached to the ceiling, playing as Eustace in "Courage the Cowardly Dog" and playing keyboard on lullabies album which is now know as Metallica's "Metallica album.
After all the playing Justinas switched to playing computer keyboard controlled fun programs as Adobe Flash, Premier Pro, Photoshop, Autodesk 3max, Logic Pro and other fancy software.
He hopes to land a career in multimedia field and land on Mars to create image series "More than a thousand words".

Personal Branding Business Card
So first I wanted to decided how should I define myself. I made a list of potential fields that I could aim for:
3D Modelling and Animation
2D Animation
Video production
Digital production
Sound production
Multimedia Artist
Design
Web design
Graphics design
Creative Artist
Photography
Filmmaker
I would like to do various creative work in the future. So best option would be to present myself as Multimedia or Digital Artist. All my work evolves around digital space. Animation is not hand drawn and photography or video is not based on the traditional film. This is what all subjects have in common. My work could be described as digital, computer generated design work based on 0s and 1s. So I guess it would be most appropriate to call myself Multimedia Artist.
Few business cards that fit my personal taste:
The "Digital" video, animation, photography concept was floating in my head. As a digital artist I thought how I could transfer this "Digital" concept to my branding and business card. Once you strip down any visualized digital file you get pixels. Pixels create the image or video and there are thousands of them. So I think that is a strong theme for presenting digital arts. I have chosen to blow out picture of myself so pixels could be seen in all their glory. Image will be used for background of the card. On top I will put pixel/blocks/bits text that will should fit with image. Ill put only basic information on it as my name, phone number, e-mail adress and self-proclaimed title of "Multimedia Artist".
I tried different part of the image to see which look best and the winner was eye. It was the only part that when blown out this much still can be recognized and be seen as a shape. Eye also can stand as a symbol of artist because it is one of the most important tools that one has to use, often artist are described as "he has eye for things" or "visual flair". Eye is framed with text at top and bottom opposite to each other.

Few business cards that fit my personal taste:
As cards says "Delightfully different"
Appealing back and simple presentation of info
Creative and unusual two layered cards
Simple
Great adoption of well know name tag design as a business card. Concept that works really well
Clear and Bold
Gradient background. Back shouts out that "less is more".
Clear and neat
Clear and simple. Like the minimalism and play of colour.

Web team: Find us page
As a member of web team I was responsible for creating the Find Us page.
Web Page Content:
A short introduction of where exhibition is going to take place mentioning university and the building.
I thought about possible ways people can travel to the university. I checked university web page to see their solution at http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/your_university/anglia_ruskin_campuses/chelmsford/find_chelm.html
University web page has two sections. One for public transport and one for traveling by car. Sections are subdivided to bus and train and Park & Ride and alternative parking sections. It also had a picture with marked Park & Ride locations which ended up using for our web page.
Our web page first section consist of traveling by public transport which has information on how to get to university campus from bus and train stations. Under it I included the journey planner which is a "Transport Direct" gadget. Using it visitor can get journey suggestions from their specified postcode location to the campus. Then I used "Google Maps" to create map whit both stations and shortest path to follow to the exhibition. Map is interactive and can be expanded, opened in new page to make it bigger.
Second section was for travelers with cars. It has link to and information about Park & Ride and parking lots which are nearest to university campus. These parking lots are also marked on interactive "Google Map" with paths directing to the campus.
Information used on the page was adapted from university "Find Chelmsford campus", Chelsmford Borough Council and Park&Ride web pages.

Gallery Visits
I and Alex went to London to check out exhibition. Below there is a list of things that impressed us most.
White
cube – Hoxton square
Gary
Hume – indifferent owl
Black
writing on white walls about exhibition
There
were no signs describing the work.
No
people leading exhibition as was only two square rooms, no real flow
White
walls with artwork on it and nothing else. Empty/minimalistic
approach. Loads of white space
Reception
had a A4 piece of paper which had the list of works naming title,
Year made and dimensions. On the other side a description of artist
and the exhibition from a press release
A catalog of art work supported the art work
KK
outlet – Hoxton square
Robert
Montgomery – it turned out this way cos you dreamed it this way
Before
entering the exhibition there was artwork on a billboard outside on
the wall
The
exhibition was accompanied by a description on the wall as you
started and had a piece of A4 piece of paper describing the
exhibition and a brief of the artist.
Black
writing on white walls about exhibition
Lighting
focused on pieces of art work, this drew attention
There
was a flow which led you around the wall, use of lighting helped this
Use
of spacing between pieces was good as this didn’t distract you to
another piece
Advert
of the gallery in the window, on an advert board at the door. Saying
‘SCREENING’
John
Lawrence, Joe Watling curated by Matilda Strang – Screening
Book
of sign-age and postcard flyer in the foyer
Walk
into a dark room with no lights, the light source was the use of the
projected work onto the screens. Only screens were visible in the
room.
Hanging
pieces from the ceiling helps to direct the visitors around the
exhibition space from screen to screen.
V
& A – South Kensington
Formal
dress code of attendants (black suit/ white shirt), formal museum
Box
of donations everywhere
Areas
divided into sections with the use of colour:
Materials
and Techniques - Red
Asia
- Orange
Europe
- Blue
Modern
- Green
Exhibitions
- Purple
The
areas sections where indicated with the use of the theme they were
portraying
Colours
were matching within exhibition – walls, stands describing
exhibition sections and small plaque describing exhibits.
Lighting
focused on exhibit pieces
Every
exhibit had a plaque. Some were hard to read due to small text and
placement.
All
exhibit were next to each other. No empty space. Too many
distractions.
In
some areas the art work portrayed on the way had a good layout with
bigger pieces moving into little ones before moving back out to
larger images. This helped the flow of the viewer looking at the
pieces.
House
of Annie Lennox – V & A
Exhibition
of Annie Lennox image, achievements and creative work
Exhibition
with very strong theme of House.
No
white space, every corner of the room was incorporated to the
exhibition.
Projected
images/video of windows brick wall and outdoors, sky and fields, on
the walls.
Use
of sound, images and lights.
Space
within a space – house in the middle of a room containing
workstation songs, writings manuscripts.
Holes
in the wall which had different music from main room and small
exhibits created intimate atmosphere. When you lean to look in the
holes main music from room which played really loud was blocked and
person could only hear music inside the hole.

Theme Ideas
Ideas for the exhibition theme
Subjects that were taught during the Multimedia course:
3D/2D animation
3D modelling
Sound
Video production
Photography
Product design
Coding
Web design
Having all taught subject in mind I started brainstorming about possible themes for the exhibition. Some of the ideas are related to the course and some of them are just my thought without any relation to the course.
Suburb neighborhood
Exhibition would be as a fictional one road neighborhood in which 2-3 students have house displaying their work.
The floor could be used as a road which is forked towards separate houses. Rooms/windows of a house could be used as individual student space displaying their individual work
Skyscrapers/buildings
Similar to suburbs concept. 2-5 skyscrapers could be build in the middle of the mezzanine as 3dimensional buildings. Each side of the building would display students works. Show space could be divided to building's floors and sides.
World Countries/7 Continents of the World
Sections portraying common features of different countries or continents.
Identity
Labyrinth
Simple labyrinth could be built up from connecting boards/walls. There would be one entrance and one exit.
Student work could be displayed on the walls. It would be great to have as many turns as there are students. Therefore, work could be displayed on the corners, so when visitors goes trough the labyrinth work is always in front of him.
Inside the labyrinth should be total darkness except the lights illuminating the work and turns. Student created soundscapes from advanced sound techniques module could be played throughout the labyrinth to enhance experience.
Roads/Traffic lights
Roads on the floors could direct to the student work on traffic lights and signs.
Boxes
Every students have a box with their work in it. Visitor has to open the box to see the work or boxes are already left open. Boxes could be piled together as in a warehouse.
Industrial/Dirt/Mechanisms
Dark, grey and dirty atmosphere
Shop/mall/shelves
Student work could be displayed as products on the shelves.
Future careers
Classic painting gallery
White walls with framed student work and description cards next to them.
Desktop/computer screen/Folders
Use of computer graphics such as folders, icons, start menu.
Media hardware
Color
Camera/film negative
A scaled version of film strip hanging horizontally placed around the mezzanine. Works displayed on "negatives".
Graphic elements(circles and triangles)
Use of big basic graphic elements cut outs/boards to display the work.
Could be made of few simple shapes like circles and squares. Line of circles and squares would point/flow towards the corresponding shape board with students works.
Studio/production house/office
Construct a closed space with rooms in it. Each room could reflect different stages of creating multimedia artefacts.
Room suggestions:
pre-production writer's, brainstorming room with tables, chairs, papers, pens. Creative inspiring atmosphere filled with scripts, papers, designs, mood boards, storyboards etc.
production room filled with work in progress images, codes, studio lights, camera, etc. Built interactive green screen where visitor can stand and see themselves in a screen with different backgrounds.
post-production room filled with film strips, editing tools, Fx etc. This is where screening of student videos could be held.
Cinema/Screening
Create couple screening section with projectors. Student work would be projected on the walls, ceilings and floors. No printing required.
